Changing Your Bathroom Furniture

Your bathroom is one of the most used rooms in your house; it is used every day without fail. When it comes to buying furniture for your bathroom it is not always easy getting it all to fit together and look good in the room. Spending time planning out the bathroom is a vital key to success because you can have drawn out plans which let you see how much space you can have after the install of the furniture. Using computer programs which assist in the computer aided design can be used to show the perspectives of your bathroom. Programs like these are useful because you can play around with different pieces of bathroom furniture and see how they fit best.

If you want to update your bathroom furniture whilst sticking to the budget you have arranged, you should keep the layout you have and replace the furniture you have currently. This allows you to keep the set plumbing points which you currently have. Also because you are keeping the same plumbing points, this means that you won't be left without a bathroom while yours is being renovated.

When you are planning your bathroom and you are considering which furniture you would like, it is important to think what is going to be stored in the cupboards or draws. This can then determine the size of the cabinets that you will require or if you would need more than one. A useful vanity option which runs from the ceiling to floor provides the perfect space for towels and cloths. Having a vanity unit with a basin is a good space-saving unit and it can also have a surface which can be used for accessories.

When it comes to bathroom furniture its can either be wall hung or free-standing and they are very different from each other. The wall hung option for furniture is for more modern bathrooms which have a limited amount of space. The wall hung choice creates a minimalistic feeling in your bathroom and makes it seem much more spacious by taking up less floor space. The free-standing furniture has a more of a contemporary look and brings a stylish modern piece of furniture to your home. A good example of a piece of free-standing furniture is a chest of drawers these would be useful for the storage of bathroom products. In some cases it good to use both free-standing and wall hung furniture because this creates extra space.

Accent Tables to Fill the Space in Your Home

Every room has one. That space in your home that just seems empty. Yet, many pieces of furniture are simply too large or bulky to fit the space available. So, you end up doing without, rather than putting in something that is too large or would end up looking out of place.

Accent tables will fill the bill nicely. In contrast to other tables that may be larger overall, accent tables come in all sizes and shapes, from fairly small to quite large. This insures that you'll almost certainly find the table that is perfect for your home and the space you have in mind.

For example, an accent table can work wonderfully in an entryway, where you could use a place to keep your telephone books, your keys, gloves and other essentials that help you get on your way or find your way on a daily basis. They would look great with a small mirror above them, just so you can make sure you're all put together before you head out for the day.

Because of their very nature, accent tables are made to capture the attention of visitors and guests. Compared to end tables and coffee tables, they can be quite ornate, such as lovely wood tables with exotic, complex patterns of wood veneers. The can also come in any shape imaginable, from square and rectangle to round, oval and even octangular.

Round end tables even make a great alternate to traditional end tables, adding a lot of visual impact to the room, since square or rectangular end tables are usually the rule. Accent tables that are round or oval make a delightful exception to this rule. You can even make a bolder statement by going with a pedestal table instead of a traditional table with four legs.

Many accent tables come in designs that capture your interests and passions. For instance, you can get accent tables with a travel theme, with a large compass design on the top done in exquisite veneers. Or you can find one that has a built-in wine rack on the bottom, allowing you to share your love of wine with visitors and guests.

While rectangular or square accent tables will certainly fill the bill as an end table as well, you can also use them on the sides of your bed. One of the great things bout these tables is that they can each be different. Whether you use them in the living room or in the bedroom, you can actually use two different tables, such as one that's rectangular and one that's round, but in the same general style and finish. It's O.K. if they are very decorative, they are meant to be.

When selecting accent tables, you want to choose models that not only reflect your personal tastes and the decor of your room, but you also want to find tables that are of top quality. A lot of the models you'll find at discount stores aren't necessarily of the best quality. As they say, you get what you pay for. Many online retailers carry a wide selection of top quality tables from major manufacturers. One of the benefits of shopping online is selection and ease. Since you can shop by keyword, you can quickly narrow your selections, saving you time and money, since you don't have to use up a lot of gas going from store to store. And since many online stores offer free shipping, you don't have to worry about additional shipping costs, and added bonus.

One thing's for sure. You don't want to overlook accent tables as an option for decorating your home. Their versatility, beauty and variety almost guarantee you'll find the perfect table for that space that always seemed just a little too empty.

Chinese Wood Tables for Your Home

When an individual has their attention turned toward Asian home decor, one item that makes a room appear more Eastern in design is the classic Chinese hardwood table. In a Japanese decorating scheme, this may not be as applicable. However, in most Asian households the hardwood table is a distinct asset to the decorator. Since the Zhou dynasty (circa 1100-256 BCE), the ancient Chinese people had been sitting in cross legged postures on either mats or low platforms on ground level. This type of culture was in existence in China centuries before the time of Christ. It continued into the 7th century of the Tang dynasty (618-907 CE). However, by this time people had started sitting in chairs with their legs down. It was by this time period that a definite lifestyle was established based on elevated furniture. Therefore, tables had to also evolve with the times. So this is where the story of the Chinese hardwood table begins.

According to the Chinese tradition, tables are generally categorized into two major groups of "zhou" (tables with corner legs), and "an" (tables with recessed legs). There are also two sub-groups of "kang" tables and "ji" tables. Zhou tables can be waisted or waistless. The legs of the waisted tables always terminate into horse-hoof feet. The legs of the waistless ones are generally of circular section, splayed slightly outwards at the sides, and end with straight feet. Those with narrow or no waists are often strengthened with humpbacked stretchers or S-curved braces. In some instances, base stretchers are added. Generally speaking, the high waist is portioned with vertical braces. The top section of the front four legs are exposed to form corner vertical braces. Panels enclosed within the braces are carved with relief or openwork designs. The high waist is not only decorative but it also has a structural component to stabilize the legs.

An tables usually have flat ends or upturned flanges. They have two types of leg designs: one with free standing legs and the other with legs joined to low stretchers or base stretchers. Quite frequently, the latter construction has inserted panels of pierced or carved relief design installed within them at the sides. The legs are joined to the top with unmitred bridle joints. Long aprons are used to join the legs in front and at the rear to strengthen the top. The legs of this kind of Chinese table always splay a little bit outwards at the sides.

Aside from the physical distinctions in form and construction, an tables and zhou tables also have differences in terms of "spirituality." Most any physical action in relation to ban would suggest emotions being on a high level. For the Chinese, gently striking the an is a gesture used to express surprise or admiration. Likewise, etymological phrases in the Chinese language of a serious nature are derived from the character of an tables such as legal cases, trial of cases, proposal for discussion, and plans. The origin of these meanings are related to the historical fact that in the past the Chinese civil authority would usually sit behind an imposing an table with everted flanges to try cases. Zhou tables have never been used in this same way as an tables. This fact illustrates the higher status placed on an tables over zhou tables. For the same reason, altar tables used in temples and ancestral halls for worship were always impressive an tables with the same type of everted flanges.

Chinese hardwood tables are regarded by their form and function. These tables can be divided into the following types: square tables (fan zhuo), long narrow tables (tiao-zhuo), broad long tables (hua-zhuo), semicircular tables, circular tables, game tables, altar tables, qin tables, narrow tables with drawers, low tables, and stands. It is true that the tables of the Ming and Qing dynasties are very broad in their variety. While some of them are for specific purposes, many of them are multifunctional and adapt well. The strength of the hardwood tables, refined joints, the technical virtue, and the input of designs from literati clients, granted the ancient cabinet makers power to produce the simple, elegant Ming-style furniture as well as the stately Qing-style furniture. What is most important though is that the cabinet makers, no matter where they came from, followed the traditional rules for construction very strictly. This fact preserves the uniformity of both the form and structure of classical Chinese furniture.

The Asian home is therefore quite enriched by the presence of a classical-styled Chinese hardwood table. Such a table brings the ancient elegance of the past into the contemporary home or office most effectively. If one is looking to create this type of spiritual aroma in their decorating scheme, this writer strongly commends an investment in a high quality Chinese wood table. A thoughtful Asian home decorator will immediately recognize the tremendous value!

Suitable Wooden TV Stands

The moment you decide to purchase a new television you usually find that the next step you need to take is to purchase a TV stand. Unless you have something already in place, you will definitely need to buy a new one because you will probably be looking to blend your TV with your existing furniture at home.

If you prefer the elegance of wood made furniture, wooden stands are the best for you. Wood can last for a long time if properly maintained, unlike glass stands where they are prone to breakage, wooden stands can last a lifetime.

Wooden TV stands come in different shapes and sizes so you'd better take measurements after you purchase your TV. It helps a lot if you have the measurement ready so that you'd know exactly the size of the furniture you'll purchase and to make sure that the item you will buy will accommodate the appliances you want to put on it.

Practical advice we can give to people who prefer to buy wooden TV stands is that they need to buy the solid ones; those that are made of high quality wood and not those that are made from stuffed plywood. Although the solid ones are really expensive, you can take advantage of the more affordable but quality ones which are covered by oak veneers to confer a bit of the sense of the grandeur of an oak wood product.

Another consideration that one has to look for is the cable management and the number of allotted shelves on the TV Stand. It's a factor that is often overlooked but don't forget your TV's won't be complete without DVD players, surround, speakers, or your game consoles.

Cable management is one great concern for all stand buyers because they want furniture that can accommodate the cables that runs through in and out of the electronic appliances. When purchasing your stand there needs to be some design feature that helps support these "extras" that ruin how the appliances look at the back. A way to manage them or keep them from the eye of the observer is a real plus for manufacturers and sellers.

The Internet is a great resource for anyone who is looking for wooden stands. When you shop on the Internet, you'll definitely get full information about the product, what it is made of, the size, warranty (if any).

Wooden Stands add character and warmth to the room and as well as being a contemporary piece of furniture as is usually the case with TV Stands of this type, they are now more often seen in very stylish and modern designs. Making great use of materials such as glass to enhance the design is very much at the forefront of the designer style wooden TV stands.

But whatever your requirement for your TV, the wooden TV stand will remain a solid and reliable piece of furniture for many years to come.

Wood Stove Accessories

If you have a wood stove then you will want to be sure that you can the maximum effect from the design. Investing in a stove is not always cheap, but it can last a lifetime if maintained correctly. Today there are a range of interesting wood stove accessories that can be purchased that would ensure that your home is kept at the perfect temperature at any time of the year with the minimum of effort.

If your stove is of the traditional wood burning variety then you will need a way to store your logs close by, and more so during the cold winter months. You can make the task much simpler by investing in a log basket or log carrier. These make it easier to carry wood from your storage pile to the stove. They are available in almost any size or shape. Perhaps the most popular are those made of wicker. If you are to buy a log basket, consider its strength and where it will be stored when indoors.

Thermometers can be a great accessory to have as they allow a more effective and accurate monitoring of the heat of the actual stove and surrounding areas. You would want to make sure that you are not wasting wood by excessively producing heat. There are thermometers available that can be attached to the pipe, stove, or wall.

It is possible to improve the overall efficiency of your wood stove by using a heat reclaimer. This would mean that you would have to spend less money on logs as not so many would be required each day. A heat reclaimer is designed to capture heat that is normally lost through the chimney.

How do you place the logs inside the stove? If you currently do this bare handed then each time you will be potentially damaging the cells in your hands and may even be causing other conditions such as those relating to the circulatory system. You can protect your fingers, hands, and wrists by purchasing a pair of stove gloves. They are treated with a chemical that can withstand the highest temperatures. Make sure the pair you choose are long enough to protect your arms and not just your hands.

These are just a few of the accessories that you can get hold of to improve the way you use your wood burning stove. Of course there are also items you can actually use on the stove, for example kettles and steamers.

Makeover Your Furniture in the Cheap and Easy Way

Are you tired of the look of your furniture? Do you fancy changing the appearance of your room, but don’t want the cost and hassle of buying a whole new suite? Well, the good news is that giving your home a makeover can be as simple as adding some furniture slipcovers. If you have some pieces of furniture with mismatching upholstery or you simply want a change, then some new slipcovers could work wonders.

So, what exactly are furniture slipcovers? They are a cheaper alternative to re-upholstering your furniture. Re-upholstery can be an expensive option depending on the amount of work needed to make your furniture look as good as new. It can involve replacing the existing fabric, replacing worn out cushions and in some cases fixing the frame and springs. It depends on the value of the furniture as to whether it is worth the effort and expense. Furniture slip covers on the other hand are basically fabric covers that can easily be fitted over existing upholstery.

There are many benefits of using fitted slipcovers over re-upholstery, not least the lower costs. Sofa slipcovers are an excellent way to disguise unattractive upholstery on your existing sofa as well as transforming the look and color scheme of a whole room. You can use sofa slipcovers to create a completely different feel. For example, careful choice of the right slipcover patterns can help add a welcoming atmosphere of warmth to a room. Or maybe you want to create the illusion of space in a small room by adding some lighter colored sofa slip covers.

Another advantage of furniture slipcovers is that they can protect your existing fabric from becoming dirty or worn, prolonging the life of your furniture. Whether you have pets or small children or just want to prevent damage caused by accidental spills, slipcovers are an ideal solution. Slipcovers are made from durable, hardwearing materials. Cotton fabrics are common, but all sorts of other fabrics are popular too such as leather, suede, corduroy and velvet. They are designed to be easy to remove and clean, which means they can be changed as often as you like. Many are fully machine washable.

These days furniture slipcovers come in a huge variety of designs and colors. Many people like the ease with which slipcovers allow them to change their décor with the seasons or just whenever they fancy a change. And slipcovers can be found for furniture of all shapes and sizes. There are slipcovers for sofas, wing chairs, recliner chairs and ottomans. In addition, you can find fitted slipcovers for kitchen and dining room chairs, futons and loveseats. So, when home decorating, rather than rushing out to buy brand new furniture, consider slipcovers as an effective and inexpensive way to give your room a facelift.

Decorating Tips for Your Home

There was a time people thought the world was flat. At another point in history it was believed that women didn’t have the know-how to run a business or change a tire. Then there was the one about man not being able to fly. Over time all of these fairytales have proven untrue.

So it is with interior design. Until recently, many people held the belief that having their home decorated by an interior designer was reserved for the rich and famous. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Fact is, many people of average income who live in a middleclass neighborhood are frequently surprised to learn they can easily afford the services of an interior designer. In other cases, many folks prefer to learn tips about design so they have the flexibility to redo a room on a whim. Either way, you have more choices today then ever before.

It is not uncommon to completely redo a room for a one time social event such as a birthday celebration, a graduation or a wedding. With some simple tips, even the most inexperienced person can easily spruce up a room.

Before you begin, think about the style you are interested in. Is it art deco, traditional, Mediterranean, western, modern, or contemporary? These are only a few of the multitude of choices you have. Think through how functional the room will be with what you have in mind. Avoid rugs and chairs that stain easily if there will be a lot of traffic in the room.

Be very careful to scale your furniture to the size of the room. If you have a very large space you can break up the area into little sitting groups or area groups. You can easily shift the “feel” of a room with the use of lighting and/or plants. Area rugs are another tool many designers use to break up large spaces. A variety of paint colors and wall textures can make even the most mundane room come to life.

Small space decorating is fast becoming a favorite topic for many people as real estate prices rise. Think priorities when it comes to small spaces. Do you need to use an area of the room for more than one reason? In some cases you can easily convert the kitchen table to your workspace provided you have cabinet space handy for supplies. A chest of drawers can easily serve this purpose by holding office supplies, linens, or even computer components.

If you are considering utilizing the services of a designer, do your homework. Check their portfolio and references. Find out how they are to work with, did they deliver on time, were they easy to work with and did they listen to the homeowner. If you get an affirmative answer on all of these and their fees are suitable to your budget, then take the leap. Often, interior designs services are provided at no additional cost to you, and will give you the extra edge you need to create exactly the feeling you want for your home.

A great designer can make recommendations you may not have thought of. Ultimately, their goal is for you to be ecstatic with what you were able to accomplish together. After all, you are the one that has to live in the space long after the designer has done their magic.
