Decorating Your Office with Oversized Wall Clocks

If your home or office has a large amount of wall space that does not have anything on it, you may want to consider an oversized wall clock. As the name implies, these clocks are large and can easily become the focal point of the room. If you buy one that goes with the room's decor and is artistic then this is good and will help your room to not look plain and undecorated.

There are many different makes, brand names and styles, and as was mentioned above, you should first make sure that whatever kind you choose matches the existing furniture. It is very important that the color and style coincides well with the chairs, tables, shelves and other furniture.

Many of these kinds of wall clocks are made with Roman Numerals and are made in a more old fashioned style and will go well if you have antique styled furniture. There are also a few that do not have the numbers on them and these are the kind to get if you want your room to have more of a contemporary, futuristic, or modern look.

While the prices will vary depending on what style or brand of clock you get, you should focus on what will work well with your decor, and stay away from a cheap wall clock if it does not blend in well with the rest of the office's style. It is, of course, possible to shop around a bit and try to get one on sale, or shop on the internet for one, but generally speaking you will spend quite a bit more than you would have spent on a regular wall clock. However, the payoff of a cohesive theme that helps to settle and soothe waiting clients far outweighs the cost of such an item.

Choose and Fit Twin Bedding to the Room

Twin bedding is the coverings that are used for twin size beds. These types of beds are often used in children's rooms and guest rooms. Many of the twin bedding options are geared toward juvenile themes. You can find this type of bedding options any place that linens are sold.

Twin beds were very popular for many years as a way to conserve space or as a way for two people to share a single bedroom. In cases where they are used to share one room typically the bedding matches to give the room a look of continuity.

In most twin sets you will find a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, a single pillowcase, a comforter and in some cases a bed ruffle. The fitted sheet is the bottom sheet and it is called fitted because it has pockets that are made up from elastic that fits around the corners of the mattress. The flat sheet goes over the fitted sheet but its corners are "flat" or without pockets. Typically you will find one pillowcase that comes with a twin bedding set because usually only one pillow is used on a twin bed. The ensemble is finished off with the comforter or some type of blanket or cover for the bed. In some cases that set will come with a bed ruffle. A bed ruffle is placed between the mattress and the box spring. It is used to hide the under bed space and is often times quite decorative.

Styles
You can find twin bedding in many different styles. The type of room that the bedding is to be used in will drive what style you use. For example if the bedding is going to be used in a little girls room that you might want to consider purchasing some that will reflect the little girls favorite things. In a little girls room it might be very appropriate to have a set that is adorned with bows and other prints that reflect the feminine nature of the room. For a young boys room the opposite might be true, instead of frilly feminine prints you would probably opt for a more masculine look.

There are plenty of adult themes to choose from as well. In guest rooms the bedding set might be of a floral nature or a solid color. Something that is a bit more sophisticated. Regardless what the style is that you are after you will easily be able to find a twin bedding set that reflects your style.

Shopping in the Bedding Store

Buying online can be scary for a lot of people and there is a good reason as to why. There are more than just a few places on the net that dedicate a lot of their time to figuring out new ways to take your hard earned money away from you and the worst part is they do it legitimately. The internet is a vast and confusing place with a lot of people who are not what they say they are, who sell things that are not what they appear to be, but the internet is also full of great deals and it is the best place to find new and different types of bedding. Also may stores offer discounts if you decide to buy on line that is why knowing how to pot the fakes is so very important.

There are varying levels of people that you should watch out for when searching for bedding. One is the unreliable website which are easy to spot if you know where to look. These sites will not have a way of contact by phone or any terms and conditions, if you do decide to get something from somewhere like this you are almost guaranteed to get your bed set late, damaged, or most likely never. Another one to watch out for is the sites which sell things that are not what they appear to be, like attempting to buy a barbie style bed set and end up with a bed set for barbie.

You should not have any trouble spotting these sites because their pictures are always either too small or too fuzzy to see and on their terms is an all sales are final posted. The final and most challenging is the one that never send you anything at all. There sites are hardest to spot because it usually they offer you everything you want and more, great terms and conditions, a phone number, and fantastic products at an even more fantastic price. But, once you buy something weeks will go by and they will claim there was a problem with your order or they never received payment or the classic line it must be the shipping service. There is only one true way to spot these fakes, they offer huge claims and prices that are too low to be conceivable so if it seems too good to be true it probably is. As long as you watch out for these, than you should have no problem finding the right bedding for you on the net.

Decorating a small living room

Decorating the interior of a small living room requires you to consider the space available so that the room when completed looks airy, bright and cheerful. In modern day homes, the high cost of real estate has led to rooms in apartments being smaller and this in turn restricts the sort of designs that you can execute for the living room.

So whether your interior design is modern or contemporary you need to keep in mind the area available and come up with an interior design that makes the best use of materials and colors and allows the final effect to be still be one of space and lightness.

Treatments to windows should not be bulky and use huge pelmets, jambs or sills that take up space. Heavy furnishings for a window in a living room that has restricted space could have the effect of making the room look smaller. Using blinds with the thinnest possible slats would help to give a feeling of space.

Furniture in small living rooms should be minimal and multifunctional. Floor space occupied by the furniture needs to be restricted so that the living room area looks as if it has enough circulation area. This can be done easily by seeing that the supports for the furniture occupy very little space on the ground. Open spaces below furniture can actually help to create the feeling of openness and space which is so important for small rooms.

Interior design of a living room would naturally include the colors on the walls. A small room would take more kindly to a single color or slight changes in the shades of individual walls. Having a number of colors can make a room actually look smaller, especially if some of the colors are of the darker hues.

A smaller living room calls for a lot of attention to be paid to the lighting. The limited light available that comes in from the windows can be accentuated with strategically placed mirrors or other reflecting surfaces. Use of a semi-gloss paint opposite the window can also help to increase the natural light in the room. When you decide on the lighting fixtures make sure that you do not use very elaborate shades, as these could further cause your room to look crowded.

Smaller spaces have as much potential as larger ones, when it comes to ideas for decorating. Even when placing decorative pieces around the house, limit them to just one or two on a table or shelf. Placing too many items on surfaces could make the room appear crowded. Decorating a small living room need not be too daunting a task if you consider all these aspects.

Country and Western Decorating Style

Ever thought about how nice it would be to revert back to times when men worked on the ranch or farm, and women did the cooking and other household chores? Back to a time when family was important, and all gathered around a big country table to share a delicious home cooked meal. Relaxing times in the country, where beautiful lush green grass met the most azure blue skies. Country and western décor can give your home a feeling of eras gone by.

Recreating the past
Creating this comfortable, welcoming look is really easy. Many people want an elegant, stately looking home. If you are the sort who wants all who enter your home to feel instantly at ease and relaxed, country and western décor is perfect. You open your home up to anyone and everyone - and they would stay forever if only they could. That's just how at home they will feel when they visit. Your décor has everything to do with the atmosphere that people see and feel.

Most homes that are decorated in the country and western style look warm and lived-in. Lots of wood and rustic colors add to the charm. Wood floors and exposed wooden beams on the ceiling lend to the old-time feeling. Kitchens are typically over-sized and full of color. Sunflowers, roosters and old teapot collections are common, along with a wrought iron baker's rack and gingham tablecloth. Sounds like grandma's kitchen, doesn't it?

It would be nice to go back to a time when life ran at a slower pace, but creating the look in your home is the next best thing. A little paint can go a long way in the country and western décor theme. Use rustic colors such as tan, brown, dark blue, forest green and maroon to add to the rich look. Take a few western striped throw rugs containing these colors and scatter them here and there on a wood floor - amazing!

More Western than Country
If you lean more toward the western look, decorating with horseshoes and rodeo themed throws creates a fabulous look. Throws can be used in so many ways; throw one across a worn spot on the sofa, or hook one lazily over the back of a rocking chair. You can even hang them on a wall to create an amazing focal point! Table runners and coasters sharing the same western theme make a great addition as well.

Hang a cowboy hat on the wall, or even a wooden wagon wheel for huge western effect. There are even cowboy boot planters that you can purchase! Original, and sure to be a conversation piece. These days, you can find wrought iron candle holders in the shape of horses, huge Texas star wall hangings, and a multitude of other country themed accessories to give your home that look of days long past, when life meant family gathering together after a hard day on the ranch.

A Style that is Easy to Live with
Decorating your home in the country and western style isn't hard at all, and your entire family will love the relaxed and comfortable atmosphere as well. Visitors will too; in fact, you will be hard-pressed to get them to leave your inviting home on the range.

Tinkerbell Bedding for Young Girls

When it comes to having a child, there is more to raising them than just changing diapers and rocking them to sleep. While you will certainly need to do both of these things, you will also need to help decorate their rooms in a way that satisfies the both of you. You will quickly learn that decorating a room is not a onetime affair; rather, you will need to make changes as your child grows and matures. Although your young girl may appreciate a bunch of stuffed animals when she's a toddler, such décor surely won't please her as she gets older. With that said, however, there are many designs and themes that are made for young girls, and one of the most popular is the Tinkerbell theme.

In case you've been living under a rock for the past hundred years, Tinkerbell is a fictional character that was originally created for the 1911 novel, Peter and Wendy. The character was later popularized by Disney in the cartoon movie, Peter Pan, which is how most young girls know of her today. In the movie, Tinkerbell is portrayed as a sweet and innocent figure that spreads pixie dust as she flies. It's no wonder then that so many young girls have become infatuated with her. While watching Peter Pan is likely the most common ways for girls to express their admiration for Tinkerbell, it's also quite common for girls to choose Tinkerbell bedding for their rooms.

If you're in the market for Tinkerbell bedding for your daughter or perhaps for a young relative then it's important to be aware of the various options that exist. Although many people might think that such bedding would include colors of green and sparkly gold to represent pixie dust, most of the bedding is actually quite pink and includes an abundance of flowers. Because of this, it's perfect for girls ranging in age from 4-6, whom just so happen to love nearly everything pink. When it comes to actually buying bedding, your best bet is to head online where you'll find the best selection and superior pricing. A simple search in Google for "Tinkerbell bedding" will retrieve dozens of results for you to sift through.

These can often be washed with a damp cloth (if in doubt follow manufacturer's guidelines for cleaning). Sometimes traditional cushion ties can be frustratingly fiddly and even with ties, cushions can have a tendency to slide about a bit. Now you can get kitchen seat cushions that have a matching gripper on the bottom to stay in place.

Decorating Your Home with French Country Style

There's a sort of design, a glamor, as the french say, Je ne sais quoi that Americans frequently associate with France. Though only a small percentage of our country's heritage comes from France, a large portion of our aesthetic values comes from there, and because of this you see a great deal of French country decor within the new globe - much more than you would think, otherwise.

So what does French country decor consist of? Properly, the number one attribute is sunshine. Bright and plentiful, sunshine has to be evoked for your new room to boast French country decor. Without it, you simply have a mismatched room.

The goal is always to produce a rustic look. You desire a thing that's old globe, rich and warm, and often welcoming. You desire one thing which will make you at house from the meanest of country houses too as within the most impressive and largest with the old chateauxs.

Obviously, because sunshine is so crucial to the mix when aiming for french country decor, you will see a whole lot of normal colors in a room decorated in that specific fashion. Sunshine yellow is number one, but there will probably be softer, subtler shades of gold too. You will see some nice, bright reds - specifically given that ceramic chickens are component of country decor, and their combs are a vivid red - but far more frequently you will see a deeper rust instead. There will probably also be greens, whether the bright green of grass or the richer tones in the forest, the colors of french country decor spans the entire wheel from the spectrum.

When aiming for a french design room or country house, it is critical to bear in mind that a good deal on the decorating will need to be done with normal materials. You will want plaster walls which are either rough stained or painted, and ceilings with visible, sturdy beams showing. The furniture itself will need to be carved, with hand-sown pillows there to give volume. The floors, naturally, will likely be stone, and covered in warm, hand-made rugs.

Certainly, the greatest component about any household that's decorated inside the french country design will likely be the old fashioned stone fireplace. It is a should, and it is the centerpiece for any french country decor household.

Should you wish to spruce it up even additional, an additional suggestion would be to have vines that may grow around window and doorframes. It'ls a bit of authentic french country decor that could give your house the warmth and invitingness you're searching for.

Decorating the Perfect Dining Room

Even more important than the family room, the dining room is what brings families together. It's the place where families join for meals, kids work on homework, friends sip coffee over a good morning chat. It is a central part of your home, a place where flow and comfort are essential. Take a look at these ideas for putting together the perfect dining room.

Start with the Furniture
Furniture is a great place to begin when deciding the mood of your dining room. It sets the tone and helps frame the boundaries of attention. Make sure your furniture choice suits the style you are going for. If you want a Southwest approach, oak and other hardwoods work well. If you prefer something more modern, colorful chairs can help to add a festive feel with a touch of imagination. Make sure the furniture melds with the feel and comfort of the room.

In addition to the dining room table and chairs, think about other possible furniture components. A hutch can be great for wine glasses or china. Some people prefer shelves for family pictures of favorite memories. A serving table decorated with quality pottery pieces can also be a nice touch, providing extra room for additional food in the event of events like Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Center with a Chandelier
Your choice of a chandelier is also important, and should only be made once the furniture has been decided. Each should complement the other. Look for light quality that has control features. There are meals where clear lighting is best, making for good conversation. Low lighting is good for romance, when you're serving a special dinner for 2 and you're trying to set the mood.

It's important to hang the chandelier in just the perfect position to have the best effect on lighting in the dining room. Choose a size that complements the style and measurements of your dining room table. Make sure you don't have one that's wider than the dining room table, or guests will crack their own goose eggs every time they stand up. A good measure is to get a chandelier that's no bigger than 12 inches from the edge of the table.

Types of Bedding You Have to Know

When someone looks for bedding they usually look only for the bare essentials. That's why I am here to tell you that there is more to bedding than a mattress, two sheets, and a blanket, there is a whole world of other bedding that can be important not only to the look of your bed set but also how it feels.

The most basic type of the bedding is the mattress; this is something no bedroom can be without. The mattress has come a long way since the days of the water bed that your parents would lay on during there wild college days, now there are mattresses that specialize to everybody's individual wants and needs. After that should be a feather bed on top of it. This bedding is a golden treasure for people with chronic back injuries or anyone who simply wishes to sleep on a softer bed. Sheets are when it starts to get interesting because they are available in so many different fabrics. From cotton to silk there something for everyone and at a wide variety of price ranges.

The most important thing to watch for is the thread count because if it is too low the fabric can rip and or tear more easily than one with a high thread count. Pillow cases are much the same as sheets and I suggest purchasing them together to save money and time. Comforters are where things get the most complicated because you have to look for the thread count, the fill power and if it is box stitched or not. Duvet covers are the final piece to a complete bed set. Duvet covers are seem to be nothing more than two sheets sewn together but they can help protect your comforter. This can be really important to those people who spends hundreds of dollars on luxury bedding it can help improve their shelf life.

How to Display Photographs

Display of photographs in the rooms of your house demands ingenuity on your part. The photograph should be arranged in such a manner that any entrant to the rooms will glance a look at them. Keeping a collection of photographs on any counter surface in the living room would be a good idea. You can consider having a mix of old black and white alongside the colorful range of photographs in frames of a common color or design.

Walls are another favorite spot for displaying photographs. The wall should look neat and the wall color as well as lighting should appear as a perfect background for the photograph display. The angles and arrangement of photographs hung on the wall should be aesthetically done. Sizes of the frames should also be looked into. Apart from the living room, bedrooms and even bathrooms are the next favorite spots for display of photographs. Usually a bedroom showcases photographs of your loved ones. The side table near the bed or the wall facing your bed is popular for displaying photographs.

Since photographs can go piling up, the age-old album is a good way to preserve photographs. However remember to place them close to a coffee table or desk so that people can browse through them when in a mood to do so. It doesn't stop with the album, keeping photographs in an attractive photo box also finds convenience in many households. Other popular ways of displaying photographs that have caught on due to digital photography can be seen on T-shirts, cups, trays, calendars, and many more such displaying items.

Decorating Ideas for Small Living Spaces

Small spaces in a house offer you a great advantage: they are by default more friendly to the eye and accessible at all times, so your main goal should be to decorate them in such a way that they can be a little jewel spot for you, a cozy and smart retreat, a place where the eye can travel smoothly and enjoyably around. Decorating small living spaces is not always easy, but on the other hand it can be an extremely creative and lovely endeavor.

Versatility and flexibility are the cornerstones of a small space interior design, as the room available is by default small; thus you need to be able to work and function freely having everything in well appointed and practical positions. Thinking big in a small place can end up in disaster and when referring to your place you definitely deserve something better than that.

Your house is your ivory tower and a vaulting spot; you need to be able to unwind, relax and move freely in an unhampered and friendly space. Just think how many times you found yourself in a place that was small and cute, smartly decorated so as to avail the best of it, and you imagined feeling equally comfortably and warm at your house, where everything has a meaning and a positive impact. Everything is a result of smartly decorating small living spaces.

The truth is that you can always find some plausible solutions when it comes to decorating small living spaces. There are some elements that make a huge difference when it comes to spatially challenged houses and rooms; first of all, the lighting: the proper lighting is the cornerstone of every decoration in the house. No matter how smart pieces of furniture you choose, or no matter how great your style is, lame lighting can actually destroy all your efforts. It's not about fancy lights and lamps. It's about making the right choices and decorating small living spaces in order to create the right ambience and atmosphere in the room.

When decorating small living spaces it's always a good idea to opt for small furniture that can accentuate the available space. Avoiding bulky things or too compact pieces of furniture is probably required because creating a loud result in a small space can be very awkward. Slim lines and streamlined pieces can always make a difference and can be a very smart solution in your home, tricking the eye and making your given space look and feel larger.

When decorating small living spaces, you should always keep in mind that multi-functionality is an issue. It's better to have a few pieces that can be used in different ways, rather than having one piece for a particular job. A small desk in the living or sitting room can be an excellent alternative to the kitchen table; a small armoire in the hallway can provide you with additional storage room in a space where storage room can be an issue.

The Differences between Digital Clocks and Analogue Clocks

There are plenty of different clocks to choose from, have you considered a large digital display instead of a traditional analogue one? Digital clocks can be easier and faster to read for persons with failing eyesight, and also easier for children to learn to read.

There are several things you might want to consider.
  1. They are silent. You will get no ticking noise ever, which can be really irritating in analogue clocks. So a digital model may be better suited to places like a study, or entertainment room where you want it to be quiet.
  2. Read the time faster. Just like a digital watch, it is quicker to be able to glance at the face and see a number like 6:14am than it is to have to look to the hour, minute and second hand. As I mentioned, children will also find it easier to learn about time telling this way.
  3. A cool, sleek modern look. If you live in a new house styled around modern technology a sleek digital display can nicely bridge old to new. The traditional time honored concept of a wall clock is kept, but boldly redefined in modern form.
  4. Slimmer and more space saving than a traditional clock. Less wall space taken up again looks sleek and elegant.

Digital clocks are obviously always electronic, so require batteries to run off. Life cycle of batteries is similar to a conventional clock, about 12-18months between changes.

Choosing a digital clock will be a matter of personal preference entirely, and most people will still opt for an analogue instead. So it is a sure way of personalizing your house or room. As with most electronic goods you will find a good deal online at many shops.

Teens Bedroom Decorating Tips

Once upon a time you spent hours perusing Pottery Barn catalogs matching fern green throw rugs with sheer willowy curtains with lace trim. You hung over-sized butterflies from the ceiling and stacked matching cubicles for your daughter's shoes and favorite books.

Decorating for the teen years isn't so easy. Let your teen have her way and it will be rock star posters tacked all over the walls and questionable lighting. Clearly, you can't expect your taste and your teen's to mesh perfectly, but when it comes to decorating it doesn't have to be a battle either.

Sit down together and come up with a plan. You want clear goals about how you are going to make decisions and what each of you expect the outcome to be. Essentially, you are going to agree upon the decorating process.

Next come up with a budget. Having a clear budget in mind will keep you both on track when it comes to choosing furnishings. It will give your teen a reference point and keep you from going overboard on the details.

Then decide on a theme for the room. Remember this isn't the same as when your teen was a child, you are not trying to decide between a pirate theme and a princess theme. You want to decide if it will be something more like modern contemporary or something shabby chic, or maybe even something retro. Let your teen take the lead on this and tell you what he or she believes fits his or her style.

No matter what theme you agree on, make sure you start with a quality furniture set as the foundation for the décor. A stylish bed and matching dresser, Armour and even desk can make decorating the rest of the room a breeze, whether it's a hip and modern theme or something retro or antique.

You can find full bedroom sets in many styles online for less than you would at a retail brick and mortar store, and usually with free shipping. The money you save can be useful in buying matching décor like rugs, lamps, and curtains.

Once you have the bedroom set in place let your teen have a little more say in the rest of the décor. Let your teen choose some fun, unique and personal furnishings to complete the style and make it their own.

Decorating with your teen doesn't have to be a chore, as long as you make a plan, stick to a budget and start with the perfect bedroom set.

The Georgian Style for Your Home Interior Design

In this article I am briefly describing Georgian Style of interior design. In this type of interior design, the walls are of great importance and people who decorated their home in this style paid special attention to their walls. The walls area is divided in three important sections. Wainscoting, base board and rail; mid-wall section which is also known as field and the top most section made of cornice. In early period, these panels were mostly built of oak with wax polish. Later on, the trend changed and with the evolution of soft woods, these panels were painted with the woods. Fabric walling was an important trend of that time.

This means that textiles were used to hang on walls in a fashionable way. This design was not followed in dining rooms because the food smells might get trapped. Fabrics like wool damask and silk were extensively used in the interior design to attach with walls. Costly wall papers were widely available in the market with varied patterns and designs of various themes for the interior design. A wall paper sheet was widely spread and was used to attach with canvas. Moreover, there was great ease and convenience with these papers. These could be removed after the owner had departed the house.

As far as the concept of flooring is concerned, in Georgian type style, wooden planks were simply scrubbed and waxed afterward. For alternative and more advanced covering, a varnished and painted floor cloth is incorporated into the whole scheme of interior design. Marble and stone flooring was specially adopted in gardens and halls of the house. These floorings are used with classical patterns and considered more appropriate choice for the homemakers. Moreover, soft furnishing is most often adopted by many people in interior design.

How to Make a Small Room Looks Bigger

If you've got a small, cramped room in your house that people actually see or experience on a frequent basis, then you know how frustrating it can be to be inside a cave within your own how. We all love having large rooms to breathe in, but the fact is that sometimes the square footage just isn't there. Rather than complaining about what you have to work with, you can employ a few different techniques to maximize the openness of the space. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Light Wall Colors
Anytime you put a dark color on the wall like navy blue or a deep maroon, you make the walls around you heavy. While this bold look may work for a great room, all it does to a small space is make it feel even more like a cave. You need to stick with light, airy colors for your walls so that the room has a sense of relief, rather than weight. Light yellows, beiges, and blues all fair well in most homes, depending on the context, of course.

Stripes
If you don't know this, the simple addition of stripes in your clothing can make you look taller or wider, depending on if they are vertical or horizontal. You can get the same effect with stripes on your walls. Vertical stripe will make your walls look taller if you have an issue with height, and horizontal stripes will make a room look wider if that's the problem. Be careful here though. Too many stripes could make the room busy, and when you have a small space to work with, you want to eliminate as much clutter as possible. Keep it simple and maintain the light color choices throughout.

Light Ceilings
Make sure that your ceiling is a lighter shade than your walls because that will really help open the room up. White or slightly off white ceilings are usually the best and should pair well with anything you paint the walls. Also be leery of excessive texture on the ceiling. Try to keep things minimal so you don't add an extra layer of enclosure to an already tight space.

Mirrors
The addition of mirrors can vastly improve the feel in a small space because of the reflection. For one, more light is able to bounce around because of the mirrors, thereby making it feel lighter already. Mirrors also reflect additional space in the room, even if it doesn't exist. Your mind will feel like it's in a bigger space when it really isn't. If you can find a tasteful way to do a full wall of mirrors, that could be an excellent source of openness.

Minimalistic, Multi-Purpose Furniture
Clutter is a small space's worst enemy. Avoid that at all costs. You want to keep your furniture small, simple, and clutter free. Only put in what you need to, and if you can find ways to get multiple purposes out of one piece, you'll save a lot of room. For instance, you might have a padded, long chest that can act as a bench, a storage area, and a coffee table with the addition of a tray on top. One piece can do three different things. You can make a desk that folds up onto a wall and looks like a piece of artwork until you're ready to use it, or you could have a couch that pulls out into a bed for guests. Get creative with your furnishings and always keep maximum function in minimal space in mind.

How to Choose the Suitable Wall Clock for Your Room

Like it or not, nearly everyone's lives are ruled by time. We need to know when and where, and no body can get by without a clock. Sure, there are clocks everywhere... on the microwave, the stove, the TV, but they don't exactly drip style!

A well chosen clock should complement your space, and will be a pleasure to look at as well as being just functional.

Here are a few key pointers.

  1. Is it big enough? If you need to put your glasses on to read the time, maybe you should look for big bold characters. It can still be elegant, just look for a large wall clock with black on white numbers. Also look for solid easy to see hands that you can see across the room.
  2. Color. In my experience decorating, it is best to stick to traditional colors for traditional objects. Plain colors or natural tones are generally safe, or otherwise ensure that at least one color area of the clock matches one of the dominant colors in the room (i.e. white walls will blend smoothly with a white face, even if the clock surround is another color).
  3. The tick. No, I'm not being silly here. Does it tick? how loud? An amazing number of people have complained to me that they had to get rid of their new clock because the tick drove them mad! Have a careful listen, and actually tip the clock onto its side, the way it will hang on the wall. It sounds trivial but the weight of the hands and mechanism can make the tick a lot more pronounced when side loaded.
  4. Style. I make no apologies for being conservative... but I have yet to come across a room where a plain, conservative wall clock would be out of place, provided its color didn't clash with the room. If in doubt, simply stick to old fashioned round face with plain digits. Then again if you want to be adventurous here is the chance - do a quick search online and you will find hundreds of clocks to suit any theme from nautical to horror movie memorabilia.

Quilt Covers Blanket Styles

Quilt covers are used in the same way as blankets and consist of a flat soft bag that is filled with either feathers or down, or sometimes both.

Down feathers, originates from the Eider duck, and valued for their insulation properties were firstly used in Eastern Europe to fill the quilt covers. The use of these bed coverings simplify the making of a bed because it does not involve layers of blankets and sheets that are usually placed on the bed. It is single sheeting that is placed over the bed itself.

Quilt covers are not the same as a comforter, even though the placement of both on the bed is exactly the same. If you are considering buying such bedding for the coming winter nights, you will find a multitude of fabrics to choose from. There is such a large selection to choose from it can be quite bewildering.

What follows is a comparison of the fabrics available to you when deciding to purchase your quilt covers. To cater to the many tastes of people looking at fabrics, the furnishings manufacturers have created a vast collection of textiles to meet the market's demands. The market for home furnishings has a really enormous variation in fabrics that meets consumers every demand. We will look at the different fabrics to understand how they are each different and how their application varies.

The various fabrics used for quilt covers include, flannel, poly cotton, satin, silk and cotton. If you are thinking green then cotton, which is eco-friendly and organic may be the fabric to select. They provide incredible warmth and they are long lasting. When cotton is used for quilt covers, polywool sheeting and cotton are often inserted, held in place by stitching, to create much greater warmth and comfort.

An important note is that cotton is used widely for its durability and strength. Another natural fiber is silk, which created by the silk worm. As with cotton, it is an organic substance and eco-friendly to the environment. Bedding made of silk provides the same hypo allergic quality as cotton and are very warm. The shine of silk lasts forever and so does its durability. When silk is used, the bedding is smooth to the touch and will preserve its shape indefinitely. The one disadvantage of silk is that it is difficult to maintain. The only way to clean a silk quilt is to dry clean.

Another popular fabric for is satin. Care should be taken to only purchase satin quilt covers that have a cotton backing; otherwise the fabric is be quite slippery. This satin bedding is not generally used on an everyday basis, but rather for special occasions when style and elegance required. Or you may want to simply use it to compliment the decor, and not actually use it for sleeping.

Polycotton fabric is a combination of cotton and a synthetic fabric, sometimes polyester. The good thing about this fabric is its resistance to wrinkles. They dry rapidly after laundering.

So you can see the similarities and the differences between the different types of fabrics that quilt covers may be made from. From that you should be able to decide which fabric you will purchase based on your needs for the covers.

Make Your Own Bedding Likes the Hotel Bedding

It seems it could have been called something besides hotel style bedding, but it is what it is. Before it became the hit style for bedding of the year, back when most of us turned up our noses at the word "hotel" being used with bedding, most of us would frown at the idea of bringing anything that reminded us of a hotel into our homes.

Once the retail market began to show of the wonderful crisp linear style of hotel bedding, many of us were only faced with one question. What color scheme would we choose?

Hotel bedding is made of cotton, mostly fine Egyptian cotton with high thread counts. Thread counts vary between three hundred and a thousand, most often settling around the six hundred counts. Many of the finishes are labeled as sateen, not quite satin but a slickly polished finish that almost feels like satin.

The signature of the style is much more than the fabric or the finish. Easily identifiable by the linear patterns of stripes that complement or contrast the background color, the style is as clean in appearance as it can be.

The colors can either be subtle or bold. In some cases there is little difference in the shades of the background and the striped pattern that runs around the edges of the individual pieces. A good example of the monochromatic shading is a chocolate on taupe combination.

In other instances, there are bright and bold differences. For example, one of the most striking sets is a combination of black and white. Of course, there is just about every color combination imaginable including a lovely chocolate brown on baby blue.

The important element of the hotel bedding style and color patterns is that whether the selection is for the subdued or the bold, the bedding set seems to create a very neutral background. That is the beauty of the design style. It will work in any bedroom.
